There are four key components of the supervisor's role:
Assist students to set SMART goals
Offer guidance and support during CAS experiences
Review evidence and reflections
Complete a brief supervisor review at the conclusion of the commitment.
Supervising CAS activities should not require a significant time commitment. Generally, only one meeting with the student is required. During this meeting, you will help the student set goals and agree to be a supervisor.
Most activities will take place in your presence, during sports practice, club/council meetings, or during CCA's. Other activities may take place without you being present, but evidence and reflections on ManageBac should provide you with confidence that the CAS experience has occurred.
When an activity is complete students will request a final review through ManageBac. The review process involves completing a brief form on ManageBac. This can be completed in 5-10 minutes.
Please see the handbook to learn more about the role of a CAS supervisor. This is an important document if you are a full-time member of the SJII community or a member of the community who is supporting one or more of our students.
NOTE: The IB specifically states that parents and family members can not serve as IB CAS supervisors.
