CAS is the framework for experiential learning at the core of the IB Diploma Programme. Designed to involve students in new experiences, through intentional planning and reflection on these experiences. CAS encourages challenging experiences as an opportunity to grow as a person.
The emphasis is on learning by planning and undertaking real tasks that have real consequences, and undergoing a personal journey of self-discovery whilst understanding one's interconnectedness with everyone else on the planet; that is also enjoyable. CAS counterbalances and complements the academics and TOK components of the IB Program.
Creativity covers a range of Arts experiences such as dance, theatre, music and art. It can also be interpreted to include creative thinking in the design and carrying out of projects.
Activity includes participation in expeditions, individual and team sports, and physical activities outside the normal curriculum with the intent of becoming healthier individuals.
Service-learning involves an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. Service- learning should not only be doing things for others but also doing things with others and developing a real commitment to them in a way that shows respect for the dignity of others. Service-learning involves understanding, interacting, and building links with individuals or groups locally and abroad.
